“If my health was good, I would like to live forever”

My grandmother is 105 years old. She lived a life full of happy and sad moments.
My grandmother kept up with World War II, the Algerian Revolution, independence, civil disobedience, Corona and post-Corona and many important dates between 1919 and 2024.
Even though she is on her deathbed, she still remembers the details of her life since she was only 5 years old. She remembers her marriage to my grandfather. She remembers the colonial crimes in our old village and her suffering. She remembers the beautiful holiday days, and I am certain that her memory is better than anyone else’s memory.
My grandmother is the oldest in my city, but she can walk, talk, hear, smell, remember, eat and sleep like a 40-year-old.
Although my grandmother was not an educated person, she knew very well the importance of health in human life. She ate vegetables and fruits every day, drank natural herbal tea, drank a lot of water، and ate red meat and seafood regularly. She was not able to exercise like young people, but she walked daily.
When I asked her “how are you grandma?”, she used to say: “I am good as long as my health is good”. Perhaps the deepest words she said were: “If my health were good, I would like to live forever.”
